Hicksville High School

1958: John and Jim Cunningham (The Twin-Tones) with Alan Freed (Mr. Rock 'n Roll) at the Brooklyn Paramount after their record Joanne broke into the top100.

In September of 2000, a reunion for Hicksville High School was organized through the effort of some HHS alumni. One person, Holly Horton, was enthusiastic about seeing her old friends and started distributing emails to pique the interest of those planning to attend the event.

What started as a get together for some students turned out to be a “MEGA REUNION!”

On September 22, 2000, approximately 1850 students from 1953 to 1992 crowded into the Huntington Town House on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station.A sad thing happened on Monday, September 18…only several days before the reunion was to be held…Holly, an asthmatic, had a serious attack that took her life. The Horton family moved from Hicksville before graduation so Holly did not graduate from HHS, but valued her Hicksville friends.

Her efforts, sending emails, prompted two alumni to try continuing the tradition established by Holly. They would start a newsletter that would be sent out on a monthly basis over the Internet. Pat Koziuk Driscoll (class of ’56) and Linda Piccerelli Hayden (class of ’60) started the ball rolling. The Hicksville High School Newsletter had its start.

What began as an email sent to a small list of subscribers has evolved into a monthly endeavor that is read by over 500 Hicksville students from many years.

Bob Casale (class of ’61) became an assistant editor sometime in 2001. Through a collective effort, we established some monthly highlights that are part of every issue…birthdays, anniversaries, birth and death announcements, a trivia quiz and a section for news, notes and memories.
